What are the Children, Youth, and Engaging Men Programs?
The Children and Youth & Engaging Men (CY & EM) grant programs support community-based efforts that develop prevention and intervention response strategies to address the needs of children and youth impacted by domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
The CY & EM programs also support men and boys working as allies to prevent violence against women and girls.

Children Exposed to Violence
Witnessing domestic violence can have profound and lasting effects on children, impacting their emotional, social, and cognitive development and their relationships. Strengths-based initiatives that center on children and youths’ resiliency play a crucial role in providing support to mitigate the negative impact of exposure to violence, by fostering healing and resilience in children while working towards breaking the cycle of violence within families and communities.
Grantees who are funded within this program create and implement meaningful services and training that support children exposed to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking, so that children and youth can thrive and reach their full potential.
School-Based
Schools serve as critical and organic sites for reaching and engaging children and youth, providing them with education, support, and a sense of community.
Grantees funded in this program area form meaningful collaborations with primary and secondary schools to implement comprehensive prevention programs, interventions, resources, and equitable services that address dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Topics of exploration include healthy relationships, consent, and conflict resolution.
Grantees can also offer specialized training and resources to school staff, empowering them to identify risks and provide protective factors as a way to support affected students and families.
Community-Based
Community-based efforts are vital for children and youth as they provide a supportive network and access to resources that empower children and youth to access the help they need to thrive. Grantees funded in this program create, expand, and strengthen collaborative efforts through coordinated community responses that focus on prevention strategies and youth-centered intervention, treatment, and services for youth victims (ages 11– 24) of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
Engaging Men & Boys
Ending gender-based violence requires the collective effort and commitment of all genders, making the engagement of men a monumental component of the movement - their involvement in prevention efforts is essential to create lasting change.
By actively involving men, we can foster allyship, encourage accountability, and dismantle toxic masculinity, all while creating safer and more respectful environments for everyone.
Grantees funded within this program create and implement strategies to engage, mobilize, and empower men and boys at individual, community, relational, and societal levels. Participants are then able to serve as role models, agents of change, and mentors to address and prevent domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
